Global warming

Infrared rays from the sun are often reflected off our planet’s surface – oceans, land and snowcaps – back into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, which makes up the only .04% of our atmosphere, absorbs these rays instead of letting them pass. Our increased CO2 production is the main cause of global warming.

In efforts to curb global warming, we can:
• Drive less, ride bikes or car pool
• Turn appliances off when they’re not in use
• Get rid of incandescent light bulbs
• Plant more trees

The biggest contributor of CO2 emissions are the large factories and corporations. Even if turning off an appliance doesn’t seem like it would make a difference, most power companies run off carbon producing energies (coal) – so any effort to reduce the power an individual uses will contribute to slowing global warming.
